Main Announcement:

It’s an honour and a pleasure to introduce our female MC (Main Character) Sky.

In ‘Deathwish Bloom’ you experience the world from her perspective of an upcoming medical scientist obsessed with re-creating a lost medicine. However, the gameplay is anything but recreating the medicine. You’ve already failed doing it once at the very start of the game and it’s a long long way to deserve a second attempt. And you’ll be doing lots of challenging, thrilling and downright risky things to deserve it.

Ok, I won’t let my excitement make me drop any spoilers. Let’s get back to GameDev stats: May wins and June plans.

Character sprites: +1 (MC Sky) It took three attempts to get her right (she either looked too grumpy or too Instagram-like polished – before she finally didn’t).

Music: subject to a secret condition, we might be able to secure Anaïs from https://domhain-band.bandcamp.com/ to write an original Deathwish Bloom soundtrack. Would be a dream to get that cello going’ 🥹 . I have all fingers in my possession crossed for this to happen!

Story: Worked really hard on learning to condense the essence of the game story into one sentence. Or into three sentences. And to describe the exact things you’ll be doing in the game.

I found it to be similar to painting. When starting on a painting, you have this vague feeling you want to express. It’s something you have no exact words for, and painting is a better medium to catch that ‘something’ than words. You’ll only know what the painting is about when it’s finished. 

Same with the game story. Only when I distilled it into a few lines of text did it reveal its essence. I loved what I saw. I saw that this story is a worthwhile creation – for myself and for those who will read it ❤️‍🩹

Relationship system: Each of the 5 characters you’ll closely interact with has an obsessive pursuit. We can influence whether they follow through with it or not through our relationship stats. I identified each character’s pursuit, what needs to happen for it to change, and relative game endings.

So far the relationship system has 8 variables that track each character's perception of you throughout the game. I’d need to wipe my massive magnetic board clean and draw this web for further refinement.

Love Interests: if you follow the Instagram DevLog, you already know that our love interests are Cody and Alice. They both passed our frineds’ LGBT vibe check even BEFORE we asked for their feedback, and we are thrilled that they will enjoy meeting our love interest too!



May pivots:

We swapped our May goal of finishing the Announcement trailer animation for a more time-sensitive Pitch crafting for IndieDev 2025. We won’t be disclosing the Pitch contents here just yet, but if you bump into us in the street, we are now able to describe the essence of the game in a concise manner.

Many thanks to the infinite patience of Arina and Gary for proofreading our application late at night because we refused to feed out texts to Chat GPT. 'Human-made' is one of the pillars of our game-making philosophy and we love you for being there to support us being that way.

On this note, we really need to go outside and touch grass now – May has been a hyperfocus galore!🤓💪🏻
